Creating Calculation Schedules

How to perform calculations on your electrical system and create fault and voltage drop schedules.

Calculate the Project

Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Calculate Whole Project command. An ElectroBIM dialog box will open to ask for confirmation before running the calculation.

note

The first time you run the  Calculate Whole Project or  Calculate Part of Project command in a project, you will be warned that your breaker sizes and circuit descriptions may change. After the calculation finishes, ElectroBIM will create and display a schedule showing circuits that change during the calculation.

See the Calculating Circuit Breakers in Current Projects section of the user manual for more information.

This command will perform fault, voltage drop, wire sizing, and other calculations on your entire electrical model. It will also update the labels, graphics, and feeder schedule on the single-line diagram. This process takes a moment.

Create and Modify the Fault Schedule

  1. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Schedules→Fault command. The FAULT CURRENT SCHEDULE will open.

  2. Run the Revit Modify Schedule/Quantities→  Insert command. The Select Fields dialog box will open.

  3. Make the following changes to the fault schedule:

    1. Remove the Short Circuit Rating field from the Scheduled fields ☰ list.
    2. Add the DMET_Panel_BusAmps and DMET_Panel_Distribution_System fields to the Scheduled fields ☰ list.
ElectroBIM shared parameters always begin with DME.
  4. Press the button to close the dialog box.

The fault schedule will be updated. You can make further changes to the schedule title, field headings, and column order the same way as any other schedule in Revit.

Create and Update the Voltage Drop Schedule

  1. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Schedules→Voltage Drop command. The VOLTAGE DROP SCHEDULE will open.

In the Modifying a Branch Circuit section, modifications were made to circuit A-8 that caused it to upsize automatically to reduce voltage drop. This functionality can be modified in cases where you want the automation to work differently or be disabled entirely.

  2. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Customization→ Project Options command. The Options dialog box will open.

  3. Set Upsize branch circuits ▾ to No.

  4. Press the button to close the dialog box.

  5. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Calculate Whole Project command. An ElectroBIM dialog box will open to ask for confirmation before running the calculation.

The voltage drop schedule will update to show the new values.

Calculate Part of the Project

  1. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Panel Edit command. The Panel Edit dialog box will open.

  2. Select transformer T1 from the list.

  3. In the Feeder section, set Length ▾ to Fixed and enter 10 in the field provided.

  4. Press the button to close the dialog box.

  5. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Schedules→Fault command. The FAULT CURRENT SCHEDULE will open.
This step is optional, but will make it easier to see the changes.

  6. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Calculate Part of Project command. The Calculate Part of Project dialog box will open.

  7. Select panel T1 from the list and press the button.

Calculations will be performed only on the selected distribution equipment and downstream devices. When the calculation finishes, the fault schedule will update to show the new values.

Limitations of Calculating Part of the Project

If changes occur far upstream of the device selected in the  Calculate Part of Project command, the calculation may not reflect those changes.

To see an example, follow the steps below:

  1. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Panel Edit command. The Panel Edit dialog box will open.

  2. Select transformer UTIL from the list.

  3. In the Fault Calculations section, set Utility Fault at Device ▾ to 65000 in the field provided.

  4. Press the button to close the dialog box.

  5. Run the ElectroBIM Design→  Calculate Part of Project command. The Calculate Part of Project dialog box will open.

  6. Select panel T1 from the list and press the button.

Because the fault was not recalculated for the devices between UTIL and T1, the values will not change. To see how the values are affected, you will need to run the  Calculate Whole Project command, or run the  Calculate Part of Project command again and select a device closer to where the change occurred.
