Bus Ducts in Revit

Revit does not handle bus ducts well. There are a few different ways you can model them, each with different tradeoffs. We explore the options that are available and how the options impact single-line diagrams and calculations in ElectroBIM.

We look at the following topics for bus ducts:

  • The difficulties of modeling bus ducts in Revit
  • Conceptualizing how to model bus ducts using the Electrical Design Triangle
  • Connecting subfeed panels directly to the bus duct in the model
  • Connecting subfeed panels to nodes being fed by the bus duct in the model
  • Different ways devices can be connected to gather calculated values at different points
  • Drafting the connections in the single-line diagram

We also answer the following questions:

  • "What happens if custom feeders use the same Feeder ID but have different callouts?"
  • "If I need to see how load changes on one panel affect the voltage drop on the other panels, how should I model my bus duct connections?"
  • "How would I model bus ducts that are different ampacities at different sections?"
  • "Can custom callouts be predefined at the project level?"
